HighPoint Calculation: Participation is required to win HighPoint and points based on rank are awarded.
Divisions: Five divisions: PeeWee (ages 3-6), Novice (ages 7-10), Junior (ages 11-13), Intermediate (ages 14-16) and Senior (ages 17-21).
Contest Rules: Participants will be allowed to exhibit females ONLY for the Showmanship Competition – No bulls will be allowed in the showmanship contest. Cow/calf pairs will NOT be eligible to participate unless the individual showing the calf is eligible in that age group and is competing as a separate entry. If a lactating cow is shown, the calf must not be inside the perimeter of the show ring unless there is an eligible exhibitor showing the calf as a separate entry. Animals do not have to be owned by contestants. Each contestant must be a paid IJBBA member and is responsible for securing the animal to show. Competition will NOT require fitting except in the senior division (see below). Questions may be asked in all divisions. Two divisions will run in each ring with only one judge. There will be a $10 entry fee for the NJBS Showmanship Contest. This fee must be paid no later than NJBS Contest Check-In. Exhibitors are encouraged to include their entry fee with their animal entries, on the form provided with this packet.
PeeWee Division: Contest will be held before the regular Showmanship Contests begin. PeeWee Showmen are encouraged to complete an NJBS Entry form and include their showmanship entry fee. Completion of the form is encouraged so we can ensure that you receive a NJBS T-shirt and participant packet. PeeWee Showmen are welcome to bring their own animals, but will need to make sure and reserve stall space for them, if the animals are not being entered in any of the NJBS or Futurity shows. To do so, please note and pay for the desired number of additional stall spaces in section B of the entry form.
Senior Division: Finalists will be evaluated on fitting skills in addition to showmanship ability. Seniors must use the same heifer in the preliminaries and the finals. Seniors will be responsible for their own fitting supplies. Seniors will be allowed to fit for 20 minutes and can have an IJBBA member hold the tail of the animal and scratch with a show stick, while they are fitting. Fitting for senior finals will follow IBBA’s Show Eligibility and Inspection of Exhibits Rules. There will be a minimum of six (6) seniors returning for senior finals, but more can be brought back at the judge’s discretion.
